100 LINKLATERS

If you want to be a better artist get  really weird about something and then draw it a hundred times

WHERE IT STARTED

In October of 2021, in the middle of a creative slump, two things happened: I read the above quote and sat down to watch the new horror show on Netflix: Midnight Mass.

I was blown away by every aspect of the show, but especially by the talent of one of the lead actors. My first portrait of Hamish Linklater was posted on October 14, 2021– the day after I finished watching Book V: Gospel. At the time I had no idea that this would turn into an exercise spanning years.

Since that day I’ve grown exponentially as an illustrator, become more confident in a wider variety of styles and techniques, watched some truly obscure movies in the pursuit of inspiration, and met so many wonderfully talented people that have become dear friends- including Hamish himself!

NO. 100

And there it is! My 100th Linklater was a sketch of a portrait by JENNA JONES. This project has been so much more fun and rewarding than I could have ever imagined, and it won’t stop here.

BACKGROUND NOISE

While MIDNIGHT MASS was the catalyst for this whole endeavor, and remains one of the most beautiful shows I’ve ever watched, I did delve deep into Hamish Linklater’s acting (and directing!) credits over the years.

Some other movies and shows that I really enjoyed and drew a lot of inspiration from include:

TELL ME YOUR SECRETS // GASLIT // THE BIG SHORT // THE CRAZY ONES // THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE
